Abstract

The objective of the project is to analyze the effectiveness of the implementation of Power Pivot for monitoring academic performance. The data collection techniques applied were: direct observation, interviews and surveys; for the development of the business intelligence solution an interactive methodology called: Rapid Warehousing was used, which is composed of 5 phases: definition of objectives, definition of requirements, design and modeling, implementation and review. The first phase allowed us to determine where the data and technology needed to implement the business intelligence solution came from, in the second phase we identified the requirements and user profiles, in the third phase we carried out the design and modeling, in the fourth phase we defined the measures and dimensions with DAX functions (Data Analysis Expressions) and finally we programmed a review of the data mart for after nine months.

The results showed dynamic reports of the academic performance, making comparisons between the different periods, all of them generated with Excel, together with its Power Pivot complement; verifying that the level of academic performance in a first moment, was much lower than desired, this allowed taking the necessary measures and the improvement in the educational process, through the use of adequate learning tools; in a second moment it was possible to verify that the academic performance of the students improved notably demonstrating the efficiency of the tool for the pursuit in the academic formation.
